The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is a positive and rewarding challenge of self-discovery. The program equips, engages and empowers students to explore their potential while building important life skills.
St John’s is proud to offer the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award as it supports our commitment to creating a dynamic educational environment within a caring, involved community. The Framework is renowned for developing well-rounded graduates which strongly aligns with our schools aim to promote the growth of the whole person while being uniquely responsive to the needs of the Shoalhaven and surrounding regions.
The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award equips young people for life and work. It is the world’s leading achievement award. In 2013 more than one million young people around the world took part in the Award, in over 140 countries and territories. Since the Award’s launch nearly 60 years ago, it has inspired more than eight million young people to transform their lives. By creating opportunities for young people to develop skills, get physically active, give service and experience adventure, the Award can play a critical role in their development outside the classroom. It also allows their achievement to be consistently recognised worldwide, giving young people unique international accreditation of their experiences. The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award is transforming individuals, communities and societies around the world. Young people who do the Award become more confident and resilient, and develop skills in areas such as communication, problem solving and leadership. This in turn impacts on their communities, who see improvements in areas including employability, health and wellbeing, and educational attainment.
There are three levels, each progressively more challenging than the last. To start your framework, participants need to be in Year 9 or above and aged 14 years or older.
The three levels of The Duke of Ed Framework are Bronze, Silver and Gold. To meet the requirements of each level of The Framework participants are required to complete four sections which include: Voluntary Service, Skills, Physical Recreation and Adventurous Journey. The Gold level participants must also complete a Gold Residential Project.
